Spiers of Ayr Dovetailed Steel Smoothing Plane

Description

Spiers of Ayr parallel sided, dovetailed steel smoothing plane from the early 1920’s era. Gunmetal lever cap with good dark rosewood infill including open rear handle which is free from any damage and has its full spur. The plane retains its original Thomas Ibbotson blade and backing iron. The metal of the plane is good with no pitting. There is an old craftsman improvement to the handle, there is a brass strip from the top of the handle down to the blade slot for extra strength. (This could easily be removed if required). 2 1/8″ wide blade.
