Late Spiers of Ayr Dovetailed Smoothing Plane

Description

Late model 1930’s Spiers of Ayr No. 27 coffin-shaped dovetailed steel smoothing plane with the rarer FULLY ENCLOSED rear handle. Rosewood and walnut infill. Gunmetal lever cap with the later scroll script Spiers stamp. All the infill is rosewood except the enclosed handle which is walnut, (this is totally original, rivets have never been touched). Good length very thick parallel iron by Mawhood is a later replacement. Condition of the plane is used but still basically good, metal is clean, only slight fault is the handle spur is damaged and there is an old hairline to the front bun.
